Bratsigovo

Bratsigovo

The village is situated in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in the Foothills of the Rodope Mountains on the banks of the Umishka River, and is close to the towns of Peshtera and Krichim. Historical records show the township was established at some point in the 16th century, built over the ruins of an earlier settlement. Archaeological evidence has shown that the area was inhabited by Thracians and later Slavs. The town is developing as a balneological center, too. There is a cold mineral water spring (18-26 C) with the flow rate of 120 litres per minute at the distance of 500 metres west of it. There is a balneo-sanatorium built up here. The mineral water treats some skin diseases, the nervous system, kidney related diseases and others. There is a nice park and a country-houses zone around it.

It is situated in the natural saddle between the Dzhambaz Tepe and Taksim Tepe hills. It is divided into two parts with 14 rows each divided with a horizontal lane. The theatre could accommodate 3,500 people. The three-storey scene is located on the southern part and is decorated with frezes, cornices and statues. The theatre was studied, conserved and restored between 1968 and 1984. Many events are still held on the scene including the Verdi festival and the International Folklore festival.

The old town in Plovdiv

The old town in Plovdiv

Currently, Plovdiv is a modern city with an ancient spirit and charm, emanating from its numerous remains of old times. No doubt the biggest sight of Plovdiv is The Old Town. The Old Town is declared an archaeological reserve and covers the three-hill area where the town was located originally. Almost all historical sights of Plovdiv can be found there – religious sanctuaries, old residential and public buildings, archeological monuments and museums, fortress walls and narrow cobbled streets.
